LED chip suppliers post growth in April

LED chip makers Arima Optoelectronics Corp. and Epistar Corp. of Taiwan and LED manufacturer Harvatek Corp. have all posted boosts in their April records and are bullish of continued growth in the third quarter.

Arima says its revenues in April went up by 8 percent from NT$195 million ($6.2 million at NT$31.21:$1) in March to NT$210 million ($6.7 million). The company says it expects its sales to reach NT$230 million ($7.3 million) this month. Arima's monthly capacity for AlGaInP LED chip and GaN LED are 450 million units and 100 million units, respectively.

Epistar also registered sequential growth last month to NT$275 million ($8.8 million), up 10 percent from the previous month. Its utilization rate rose from 63 percent to 74.5 percent, and the company's shipments of AlGaInP LEDs increased by 17 percent to 410 million units.

Harvatek posted revenues of NT$161 million ($5.1 million) last month. The company says its utilization rate will increase from 40 percent in February to 60 percent this quarter, while its shipments for SMD-LEDs may reach 197 million units this month.
