Hifn expanded its Acceleration (HXL) board family with the release of the HIPP 7855 HXL security acceleration board based on the company's Intelligent Packet Processing (HIPP) proprietary silicon.

The HIPP 7855 HXL board family provides high-performance, single-pass compression, encryption, and authentication, and complete protocol support for IPsec, IPv6, SSL/TLS, IPPCP (IPcomp), TLScomp and PPTP. Supported algorithms include LZS Compression, DES, Triple DES, AES (with 128, 192, and 256bit key lengths), and ARC4 encryption; MD5, SHA-1 hashing and authentication; RSA, DSA, and Diffie-Hellman public key support for SSL and IKE; hardware supported 3,072bit modular arithmetic and exponentiation, plus true Random Number Generation (RNG). Local SDRAM holds the security context, freeing up bandwidth on the PCI bus. This new board family includes a 32/64bit PCI v 2.2 interface with support for 33MHz/66MHz bus speeds.

"The security performance required in enterprise class equipment continues to increase, placing a greater burden on the host processor," said Glenn Haley, product line manager at Hifn Inc. "The HIPP 7855 HXL is perfect for customers with more sophisticated IPsec systems that want to off-load compute intensive header and trailer processing. Off-loading the sequence number checking is also a big gain for the customer's host processor."

Other target applications for the HIPP 7855 HXL board include VPN secure routers and gateways, firewall appliances, integrated service routers, wireless switch/gateways, VoIP gateways, and SAN gateways. With 725Mbps IPsec processing and 690Mbps SSL Record Processing, the device meets the IPsec and SSL performance requirements of OEM customers looking to quickly integrate security into their system design, said Hifn.

Coupled with the available software development tools, the HXL board family can be designed into new systems, making it possible for networking equipment manufacturers to reduce the time needed to bring new products to market.

The HIPP 7855 HXL board is priced at $189 in quantities of 1,000 units.
