Makers of TFT-LCD panels, including AU Optronics Corp. (AUO) and Chi Mei Optoelectronics (CMO), have followed the standards of South Korea-based LG.Philips LCD Co. Ltd for their TFT-LCD panel sizes.

Taiwan companies have opted to produce 1,950-by-2,250mm glass substrates at their 7.5G production, which was the same size used by LG.Philips LCD at its 7G production.

LG.Philips LCD says that the 7G line will manufacture mainly 42- and 47in TFT LCDs while Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd, also from South Korea, will focus on production of 40- and 45in TFT LCDs.

With Taiwan companies opting for the LG.Philips LCD panel size, the 42- and 47in TFT LCD will likely be the mainstream for the large panels in the digital TV market.
