HIPAC Semiconductor Inc. (www.hipacsemi.com) introduced a portable power solution reference design that is based on it HPW7095 multi-channel PWM. The Cougar-4 is a 4-channel dc-dc module that is designed for the one-cell Li-ion battery-powered handy terminal applications.

According to the company, the widespread use of portable devices with multiple functionalities has resulted in the requirement of complex and efficient power solutions to prolong battery life. As a result, power management systems are needed to provide a set of power supply from battery operating over a wide range of voltage variation. At any given time, the required voltage can be higher or lower than the battery voltage, depending on the application, thereby requiring a dynamic buck-boost (step-up and step-down) regulator, added HIPAC.

Key features of the Cougar-4 dc-dc module includes flexibility; expandability since room for future expansion is possible; and affordability, with total system solution cost under $5 at 1,000-piece quantities.
