India's HCL Technologies Ltd has formed a joint venture with Japan's NEC Corp. to be based in Noida near the Indian capital of New Delhi.

The firm, to serve the Japanese market, will handle embedded software, hardware design, mobile technology, high-performance computing and R&D.

NEC Corp. and its subsidiary, NEC System Technologies Ltd., will own 51 percent of venture with HCL holding the rest. HCL and NEC first started working together in 1997.

"India has established itself as a leading provider of software technology solutions and a destination for Japanese investment in sectors like telecom and information technology," said Toshihiko Takahashi, executive vice president of NEC, in a statement.

HCL Technologies Ltd. is the best-known company of India-based IT company HCL Group. Focusing on software development, HCL Technologies accounts for a third of HCL Group's $2.2 billion in annual sales.
