ERNI expanded its line of integrated magnetic modular jacks with new versions supporting remote power applications (Power over Ethernet). For applications that meet IEEE802.3af requirements (PoE) and transferring up to 15W of power, these modular jacks are equipped with either hubs or circuitry for DTE's (Data Terminal Equipments) that can accept power over either data pairs or unused pairs. According to the press release, these provide the ability to supply power along with the data on the CAT5 cable up to 100m. It eliminates the need for additional external power supplies and allows the hub to provide 48Vdc at up to 350mA. This voltage can then be converted to 5V or 3.3V to power up the PHY and DTE circuits.
Designed for VoiP phones, wireless base stations and remote cameras, the modular jacks are available in right-angle single-port or ganged 1 x 2 and 1 x 4 configurations. They have shields with panel flanges on top and on both sides for effective grounding. Integrated LEDs are available in a variety of colors.
ERNI added that its modular jack family with integrated magnetics can be customized to meet the needs of the circuit design. The devices are based on a patented design, and are specified to meet FCC and IEEE 802.3 requirements for voltage isolation and performance. The modular jacks are offered in single port, multi-port ganged, vertical and tab-up configurations.
