MicroDisplay Corp. introduced FHD, its next generation single-panel 1,920 x 1,080 LCoS micro display and the companion MSP-51 LCoS driver chip, which promises to deliver significant improvements in performance and reduction in system cost by eliminating over 50 driver board components.

The FHD display offers 15 percent more brightness, 30 percent higher contrast, and 40 percent faster draw times than the company's previous HD display while maintaining the same form factor21mm measured diagonally. Integration of analog drive electronics into the display itself allows the LCoS driver board to be configured with as few as 7 major components, including the frame buffer memory, a microcontroller and the MSP-51 LCoS driver chip. The MSP-51 also integrates sophisticated display control, display timing, image processing, and a high-speed 96-bit DDR frame buffer interface into a single 676 BGA chip, said MicroDisplay.

"This 2-megapixel, true 1080p solution and all-digital interface further enhances our customers' ability to provide first-in-class light-engine and RPTV products with the photolike quality LCoS is known for plus the simplicity of single-panel design," commented James Cathey, the company's VP for sales.
