LG.Philips LCD Co. Inc. has inked a three-year supply agreement with Hewlett-Packard in a move the Korea-based liquid crystal display maker hopes will make it the top supplier of displays for notebook PCs.

Under the agreement, LG.Philips LCD will be the primary supplier of LCDs for H-P's notebook PCs and monitors from June 2005 to May 2008. The deal is reportedly a substantial increase over the existing H-P supply agreement.

According to market research firm DisplaySearch Inc., LG.Philips LCD overtook Korean rival Samsung as the leading supplier of large-area thin-film-transistor (TFT) LCD panels with a 24.3 percent market share in the first quarter of 2005. However, LG continued to trail Samsung in the notebook PC market.

To meet the growing demands of the market and this agreement, LG.Philips LCD will increase production at its 6G and upcoming 7G LCD fabs.
