Zilog joins ZigBee alliance to support wireless digital home

Zilog Inc., a provider of 8bit MCU solutions, has become a member of the ZigBee Alliance. As a member of the alliance, Zilog will apply its knowledge in home entertainment technologies to create a wireless digital home.

The ZigBee Alliance is a global consortium of companies focused on enabling reliable, cost-effective, low-power wireless monitoring and control solutions based on an open global standard. The goal is to provide consumers with flexibility, mobility and ease of use by building wireless intelligent sensing and control capabilities into everyday devices. ZigBee-enabled solutions are aimed at the digital home, industrial automation, supply chain management, inventory controls, medical devices and transportation.

Ramesh Ramchandani, Zilog's EVP of sales and marketing, said, "Consumer demand for ZigBee-based products will continue to accelerate, in turn requiring integration of intelligent control, wireless communication and power management technologies."

Ramchandani continued, "Zilog is currently one of the leading providers of 8bit microcontroller solutions for the home entertainment and industrial control markets. We plan to further strengthen our position in these markets by bringing together our leading edge microcontrollers and the ZigBee wireless technology, in order to address the emerging requirements in these arenas and to provide our customers with innovative turn-key solutions."
