PolyIC GmbH & Co. KG, a joint venture created by Kurz GmbH and Siemens AG, has presented a polymer-based rectifier diode that works at frequencies up to and beyond 13MHz to a learned conference, according to the company's website.

The diode consists of a Schottky diode created out of the polymer semiconductor polythiophene (P3HT). The company presented results at the Materials Research Society's spring meeting, PolyIC said.

The device is stable under ambient conditions and shows good rectification performance up to frequencies well above 13MHz. The company added that the development is a step towards the realization of low-cost plastid RFID tags that operate at 13.56MHz. PolyIC plans to produce printed RFID tags in 2006.
