murata electronics North America said it has introduced the industry's smallest single band (SAFEB) and dual-band (SAWEP) SAW filters for the cellphone market, which increasingly demands smaller packaging. The company said it was able to reduce the size and weight of the new devices by combining film micro-machining technology with high-density mounting capabilities and resin sealing.

The new single-band and dual-band SAW filters offer a 44 percent and 64 percent reduction in size and weight, respectively, compared to previous filter lines. The SAFEB series is available in dimensions of 1.35-by-1.05-by-0.6mm, and weighs 0.3mg. The SAWEP filters measure 2-by-1.6-by-0.6mm with a weight of 6mg.

The easily installed SAFEB and SAWEP series devices meet global cellular standard and are available in the most popular worldwide cell phone frequencies including, GSM, IMT, GPS, J-CDMA, CDMA800 and PCS. Both filters can be mounted with lead-free soldering, such as Sn-Ag-Cu, and can be installed with reflow soldering at the peak temperature of 260.

Samples are available for the single-band series at $1 each and $1.50 each for the dual band series. Production capacity is scheduled at 40 million pieces per month. Delivery is eight to ten weeks.
