The illumination and color management system (ICM) of Agilent Technologies Inc. has been included in Coretronic's reference design for 30-inch LCD flat-panel TVs. The reference design enables TV manufacturers to offer next-generation LCD TVs using red, green and blue LED backlighting.

The 30-inch diagonal LCD TV reference design combines Coretronic's RGB LED backlight module with Agilent's ICM system. It is said to offer LCD flat-panel TV manufacturers resolution of 1280 x 768 WXGA and brightness of 550cd/m(2).

The Agilent HDJD-JB01-8831A illumination and color management (ICM) system consists of the HDJD-J822-SCR00 color management controller and the HDJD-S831-QT333 tricolor photo sensor. The Agilent ICM system enables white backlighting (using the combination of red, green and blue LEDs with feedback control) and makes it possible to maintain constant color and brightness over the lifetime of the display. This level of control combined with the increased color spectrum is not possible with any conventional technology. ICM offers dynamic RGB tuning and dynamic color changing capabilities.

By using Agilent's color management feedback system, the light output produced by an RGB LED array maintains its color over time and with variations in ambient temperature. The desired color can be specified using a standard CIE (Commission Internationale de l'Eclairage, or International Commission on Illumination) color space.
