Genesis Microchip, Meridian Audio ally on video processors

Image processing chip supplier Genesis Microchip Inc. and audio/video products supplier Meridian Audio Ltd have entered a strategic licensing agreement giving Meridian the right to promote Genesis' Faroudja technologies, products and brand on a global basis.

The agreement authorizes Meridian (United Kingdom) to integrate, manufacture and distribute home theater solutions under the Faroudja brand as part of Meridian's audio/video product portfolio, using Genesis Microchip's Faroudja video technologies. These products will be available immediately through Meridian and its global distribution network.

Genesis Microchip will no longer manufacture and distribute Faroudja home theater solutions, but will continue to develop advanced video processing algorithms in cooperation with Meridian for its Faroudja-based products.

"This agreement enables Genesis Microchip to sharpen its focus on our core competency of developing advanced video processing algorithms for our IC customers," said Anders Frisk, executive vice president of Genesis Microchip, in a statement. "At the same time, it expands Faroudja's global branding presence in the high-end consumer electronics market via Meridian's worldwide distribution network.
