Altera Corp. is selling a development kit that provides designers with a platform for producing FPGA-based DSP applications and ASIC and structured-ASIC design prototypes.

The DSP development kit is based on the stratix ii ep2s180 FPGA that the company claims offers 5 percent more logic, 50 percent more memory, four times more DSP resources, and 21 percent more user I/O pins than competing devices.

"With this new flagship DSP development kit, Altera continues to demonstrate its commitment to providing leading-edge DSP design tools," said Brian Jentz, DSP marketing manager. "In one complete package, designers get the hardware and software tools they need to create world-class DSP systems using the industry's leading FPGA family."

The kit includes a DSP development board, Quartus II software version 5.0, DSP system reference designs, and an evaluation version of the MathWorks' latest MATLAB/Simulink software update. Altera's DSP Builder tool allows engineers to create hardware design directly the from the Simulink model-based design environment.

To get more information about the DSP development kit, Stratix II Professional Editon, go to Altera's website.

The kit can now be ordered for $5,995, with an ordering code of DSP-DEVKIT-2S180. It will ship in the third quarter of 2005.
