Motorola, Samsung in technology sharing agreement
Keywords:mobile phone?
Samsung and Motorola, bitter rivals in the mobile phone space, will share unspecified mobile technology, the South Korean electronics vendor said.
The Reuters news service said that a Samsung filing with that nation's stock exchange included the information about the technology sharing agreement. Samsung already has signed a similar agreement with Sony, Reuters reported.
Such cross-licensing agreements are sometimes instituted to help the involved companies avoid litigation over intellectual property. While Samsung disclosed it had signed the agreement, it provided no details about what specific technology it covers, according to Reuters.
Motorola has been the second-leading mobile phone vendor in the world after Nokia, but Samsung has been catching up in recent quarters, according to a number of global market studies.
