Communications Blockset 3 is the latest version of The Mathworks Inc.'s software for designing and simulating the physical layer of wireless and wireline communications systems and components. Using model-based design, Communications Blockset 3 improves the channel visualization and bit error rate (BER) features over previous versions to let you access the communications system simulation capabilities of MATLAB and Simulink within one graphical user interface.

Channel visualization reveals the time-, frequency-, and phase-domain behavior of channel models. The feature helps design effective receivers by letting you visualize and explore time varying communication channels by, for example, pausing simulations to focus on channel behavior at one point in time. The BER tool lets you quickly compare simulation results to well-known theoretical benchmarks, prepare presentation quality BER graphics, and analyze BER simulation results.

Other benefits of the upgrade include enhanced synchronization and equalization libraries. The former lets you build receiver models with better fidelity than previously possible without writing custom C code. The latter lets you model numerous adaptive and nonadaptive algorithms, including maximum likelihood sequence estimation.

Communications Blockset 3 is already available for Microsoft Windows, UNIX, Linux and Apple Macintosh OSes and carries a starting price of $1,000.
