AMI Semiconductor is sampling a controller area network (CAN) transceiver called the AMIS-4270 that acts as the interface between two physical CAN lines for 12V and 24V systems.
The AMIS-42700 complies with ISO 11898-2, the specification for the high-speed physical layer for CAN. The AMIS-42700 is a single-chip CAN repeater that is the liaison between two physical bus lines and the protocol controller in high-speed CAN (CANH) busses in in-vehicle networking applications, such as engine management units and body electronics.
Using advanced I?T mixed-signal semiconductor technology, the AMIS-42700 integrates several functions in a single chip. The AMIS-42700 includes two differential line transceivers and a logic block that has repeater function and feedback suppression.
Protection is provided by a thermal shutdown circuit and electrostatic discharge protection up to 8KV.
The AMIS-42700 can provide a diagnostic access point to a CANH bus without the need for a microcontroller. As a result, direct access is provided for diagnostic tools at speeds of up to 1Mbps.
The AMIS-42700 is housed in a 'green' SOIC 300, 20-pin package. It is priced at $1.61 per unit in 5,000 quantities.
