SigmaTel Inc., an analog and mixed-signal IC provider, has opened an office in Seoul, South Korea. The office will provide strategic support for the company's continued expansion in the Asian market by enabling SigmaTel to provide even faster technical and sales support directly to its customers in Korea.

The SigmaTel Korea Ltd office has 15 full-time staff to provide technical solutions to the company's electronics manufacturing customers in the region. SigmaTel aims to provide the "best of breed" MP3 technology solutions to customers throughout Asia. The office is the fourth to be opened in Asia since the end of 2004, including centers in Hong Kong, Taipei, and Shenzhen.

The MP3 player market worldwide, including the Asia-Pacific region, is expected to continue growing this year. Information technology research firm Gartner estimates that worldwide MP3 player sales, which nearly tripled last year, from 14 million to 40 million units, will almost double again during 2005, to 75 million units.
