Enclosures provide extreme cooling

Tailored for high-power appsHybricon Corp. touts that its new line of 10U rack-mount enclosures for high-power applications provides cooling up to 100W per slot. The new RME21XC Extreme Cooling series is available with the company's 21-slot VITA 1.7 VME64x, vxs or compactpci switch fabric backplanes.

The power dissipation levels of today's high power VITA 1.7 VME64x, VXS, and CompactPCI switch fabric boards have been increasing over the past few years from the 50W to 60W range to the 75W to 100W range. The company said the new RME21Extreme Cooling series can effectively cool 75W to 100W boards, as demonstrated by thermal analysis which shows an average airflow of 450 LFM, which is sufficient to cool up to 100W per slot.

Hybricon's 21-slot VITA 1.7 VME64x, VXS or CompactPCI switch fabric backplanes have been computer simulated in the company's signal integrity laboratory to ensure low signal cross-talk and trouble-free system operation. The enclosures are available with up to 1600 watts of embedded power.

The rugged enclosures support 80mm plug-in modules and transition modules in all 21 slots without obstructions. They also support optional front accessible peripheral devices and feature a fan speed controller that reduces acoustic noise and provides locked rotor failure detection.

In addition, the new enclosures are fully compatible with IEEE 1101.10/11 packaging standards. Custom configurations and system integration services are available.

Pricing for the RME21XC Extreme Cooling series starts at $6,000.
