Taiwan's top two foundries, Taiwan Semiconductor Mfg Co. Ltd and United Microelectronics Corp., both reported sales revenues for June, that were up on the previous month, however both companies continued to lose ground compared with their sales performances in 2004.

TSMC reported June revenues were up 3.1 percent from May to NT$20.11 billion (about $625 million), but down 10.7 percent from a year earlier. As a result TSMC achieved net sales for the first half of 2005 of NT$114.17 billion (about $3.56 billion) 6.7 percent down on TSMC's first half revenue in 2004.

UMC posted June sales of NT$6.61 billion, up 2.1 percent from May but down 36 percent from the same month last year. UMC's sales for the first half were NT$39.73 billion (about $1.24 billion) 36 percent down on the company's first half sales in 2004.
