Artisan Software Tools Inc. has become an associate member of the Automotive Open Systems Architecture (Autosar) development partnership, the company said Friday (July 8).

Autosar is a partnership of players in the automotive, electronics and software industries pushing for the establishment of an open standard for an automotive electric/electronics (E/E) architecture that would serve as a basic infrastructure for the management of functions within applications embedded in vehicles. Autosar partners include BMW, Bosch, Continental, DaimlerChrysler, Ford, GM, PSA, Siemens VDO, Toyota and Volkswagen.

Artisan (Cheltenham, UK) said the automotive industry is an increasingly important sector for its collaborative modeling tools, due to their focus on both systems and software development as well as their use of a shared repository that fosters communication between suppliers and original equipment manufacturers (OEMs). The company's automotive customer list includes Audi, Blaupunkt, Bosch, Daimler Chrysler, Delphi, Denso, International Truck, Renault, Siemens VDO, Volkswagen and Yazaki, among others.

By joining Autosar as an associate member, Artisan will have early access to results from working groups focused on standardization of automotive electronics including method definitions.
