Extension adds unique functions to C++ class libraries

The Extended Template Library (ETL) Toolkit, an addition to Recursion Software Inc.'s portfolio of C++ libraries for software, pushes the Standards Template Library (STL) for C++ beyond what's available from Open Source or commercial versions.

Among the features rolled into the ETL Toolkit are sorted vector and dynamic array classes, as well as hash table, heap, and list functions. Of these, the sorted vector classes sort and resize arrays after new items are inserted, while the dynamic array classes perform array operations without loops.

The hash table, which includes an iterator, has all the features commonly associated with a hash or symbol table, as well as a default hash function. The heap implementation prioritizes and templatizes items, and maintains those priorities dynamically. And the list function, which covers stacks, queues, and sets, expands on the standard list function by allowing operations to be in constant time at both ends of the list, rather than on just the head of the list.

The C++ Toolkits, which deliver advanced class libraries for developing and deploying Web services, are intended to ease development of multithreaded applications by obviating the need to code low-level tasks. They are available for a wide range of operating systems, including Linux, AIX, Tru64, HP-UX, IRIX, Red Hat Linux, Mac OS, VxWorks, Windows, Pocket PC, Suse Linux, and Solaris, as well as over 50 compilers.

Free evaluation versions of Recursion Software's C++ Toolkits, including the Extended Template Library, are available at the company's website. The C++ Template Toolkit, which comprises both ETL and STL tool kits sells for $750, while a standalone version of the ETL Toolkit sells for $490.
