Samsung Electronics has closed a supply contract with Taiwan's 3G mobile communications operator Vibo. Samsung Electronics claims to be South Korea's first corporation to export system hardware for wideband CDMA, a 3G mobile communications technology platform.
Samsung Electronics will supply W-CDMA systems to Vibo, which is scheduled to launch commercial service at the end of this year. Samsung Electronics' W-CDMA system for Vibotel applies HSDPA, allowing easy migration when Vibotel starts HSDPA service.
Samsung Electronics' debut in the W-CDMA system market serves as an opportunity for them to advance into other overseas markets and achieve a balanced development of the conventional and 3G CDMA businesses.
Early this year, Vibo decided to launch W-CDMA service in the 2.1GHz band and has been preparing for launch ever since.
