O2Micro Int. Ltd has received seven claims under U.S. patent number 6,900,993 for its inverter controller architecture.

The patented architecture with multiplexing functions reduces the overall pin count of the IC and number of external components used in computer system applications that require one or more cold cathode fluorescent lamps (CCFLs).

"The multiplexing technique provides a low cost CCFL inverter circuit solution for cost sensitive and compact CCFL applications, such as liquid crystal display monitors (LCDMs) and LCD TVs," commented Yung Lin, O2Micro's VP of the intelligent lighting business unit.

O2Micro is a supplier of innovative power management, and security components and systems for the computer, consumer, industrial, and communications markets.
