CDMA wireless phones and devices maker Kyocera Wireless Corp. and Pctel Inc. will cooperate in developing software for future 3G Kyocera handsets.
The development is anticipated to leverage Pctel's roaming client software for secure and automatic connections to various wireless networks, as well as enabling seamless phone calls over mobile and VoIP networks. Kyocera's 3G phones will also incorporate Pctel's security and authentication modules for various service providers' networks.
Convergence between wireless networks has proven to be the emerging area of focus for handset and infrastructure manufacturers. Co-mingling of such IP networks demonstrates the first applications of IMS (IP Multimedia Subsystems). Such applications include single identity voice roaming, push to talk, push to view, instant messaging, and conferencing.
Pctel currently supplies its roaming client products to T-Mobile (U.S.), Cingular, SBC, NTT Docomo, GoRemote and others. The product includes a powerful back-end server (central configuration server) that enables complete carrier control over the network contents and use of the client.
