The "531" chip is Wisair's second-generation media access control/baseband chip. The cmos chip is based on the WiMedia physical-layer specification. It comes with wireless Ethernet/Internet Protocol support as well as MPEG and a parallel high-bit-rate data interfaces.

The chip will be paired with the Wisair's second-generation 502 RF device launched in April. It supports short-range, USB-like connectivity at rates up to 480Mbps.

The latest round of chips, including the 531, will be demonstrated at Wireless Japan 2005 with small form factor reference designs. The 531 comes in a 225-ball TFBGA package.
