The iC-JX from iC-Haus is a 16-fold, 24V high-side driver with error monitoring programmable I/O device with diagnostic function and A/D converter (ADC). An external microcontroller (MCU) can configure the I/O ports as read only inputs or as drivers with a readback option. Meanwhile, an 8bit parallel or SPI-compatible serial interface is provided as a link to the controller. The supply voltage VCC is compatible with the supply voltage of any 3V or 5V MCU. iC-Haus added that I/O ports with an input function can read 24V logic levels.

With integrated pull-up and pull-down current sources, levels can be set for open inputs or bias current supplied for external switch contacts. The internal pull-up and pull-down current sources also permit connected sensors to be stimulated and evaluated using the voltage values measured. Since I/O ports configured as drivers can evaluate their loads, malfunctioning indicator lamps or open and shorted wires can be recognized before the driver is activated. The integrated 10bit ADC also enables voltage values to be read out at all I/O ports.

I/O stages configured as high-side drivers can drive various loads to a common ground with 150mA of permanent current. Temporary pulse loads of 500mA are permitted to cover typical inrush currents from lamps and capacitive loads. The inductive loads switch-off energy is discharged by the integrated flyback circuits. A common enable pin permits the global shutdown of all driver outputs by an external watchdog.

All output stages are short-circuit-proof and protected against thermal destruction by an excessive temperature shutdown activated at 120C. The iC-JX has an integrated supply voltage supervisor which resets the registers and deactivates the drivers when undervoltage occur at pins VCC or VDD. The same occurs when bursts at VDD cause internal logic control states to flip.

Housed in an MQFP52 package, the bidirectional I/O device is suitable for industrial control applications where diagnosis and the monitoring of functions is required, such as in equipment control and safety and surveillance systems, in the operation and monitoring of control panel displays, and as drivers in industrial automation technology at ambient temperatures of -40C to 85C.
