Connector suits AdvancedTCATyco Electronics offers a Zone 1 power connector for the PICMG 3.0 specification, also known as AdvancedTCA. The new Z1 power connector is said to combine very high conductivity materials with precision formed selectively-plated contacts to produce high-current carrying capability while keeping costs at a minimum.

Leveraging design and manufacturing technologies common to many of Tyco's new power and backplane connectors, the company said this approach ensures compatibility with its customers' printed-circuit-board processing and high reliability of the press-fit terminations.

The connector also satisfies the higher-density power levels of future equipment as defined in the AdvancedTCA Standard. The connector features four levels of sequencing, which includes a first-mate power/ground pin and a last-mate enable/signal pin, and is rated for 250 durability cycles. Contacts are rated at 16 amps in each of the eight power contacts per the PICMG 3.0 standard.

Both the backplane and linecard connectors are fully intermateable and interchangeable with the existing power connector defined in the PICMG 3.0 Standard. The backplane connector meets international safety standards for "touch-safe" applications.

Pricing for the backplane and linecard connectors is $7.88 and $9.75 each, respectively, in quantities of 500.
