ARM CPU product Marketing and EDA Manager Noel Hurley will discuss the "OptimoDE: configurable data engine technology" this July 27 at the Embedded System Conference & Exhibition (ESC-Taiwan) to held in Taipei, Taiwan.

The OptimoDE data engine technology is a set of licensable IP configured with a related development tool environment. It consists of programmable VLIW type architecture that targets high-performance embedded signal processing applications. The tool is expected to help designer's program and extend the type and numbers of its data path resource units, while near-end storage capacity, topology configuration way and interconnection level can also be set up.

ARM OptimoDE audio version technology is designed for portable media player devices and mobile phones that are incorporated in hard disk and flash memory. It is capable of improving the digital effect recording and the device's play effect, as well as improve battery life of up to 40 percent.

According to ARM, the latest offering is based on AudioDE data processing engine, and is compatible with several software encoding/decoding formats, such as MP3 WMA, AAC, AC3. The AudioDE architecture features high processing ability and super low power consumption because of its fine-adjustment function specified for digital music. For example, when encoding 320Kbps stereo MP3 music, its core power accounts for only 0.8mW (Artisan TSMC CL013GSFG operation voltage = 1.2V).

Further, ARM will team up with Espico, an audio encoding/decoding technology supplier, to offer OptimoDE embedded signal data engine to OEMs.

During the show, ARM will also demonstrate various high-performance solutions to Taiwan companies. ARM's booth is 1H05.
