Chipmaker Hynix Semiconductor Inc. has purchased at least 10 Magnum 2,560-pin test systems from equipment manufacturer Nextest Systems Corp.

"We selected Nextest's Magnum because of its ability to test 320 of our flash devices in parallel on one test head," says Kaang Chil Lee, director of test for Hynix Semiconductor. "This helps us meet both our capacity and test-cost requirements. Magnum provides us with this capacity while saving 40 percent of the floor space over competitive systems."

Hynix Semiconductor says the test systems will be used for the final production of NAND flash memory chips. The equipment will be shipped to Hynix Semiconductor's facility in Icheon.

"We are honored to have been selected by Hynix to deliver solutions that help them achieve their business objectives in this highly competitive flash market," says Robin Adler, Nextest's CEO. "We are excited that Magnum has gained acceptance at such a highly recognized market leader."

Nextest's Magnum offers up to 5,120 pins and 640 test sites. The system is suitable for massive parallel test applications and eliminates most of the processing overhead, enabling it to test hundreds of devices simultaneously without test-time penalties.
