White Electronic Designs Corp. (WEDC) released its 512MB DDR SDRAM unbuffered, with Phase-lock Loop (PLL), FBGA. This new device is a 2 x 32M x 64 DDR SDRAM memory module based on 256Mb DDR SDRAM components. It consists of sixteen 32M x 84 banks DDR SDRAMs in FBGA packages mounted on a 200-pin FR4 substrate (JEDEC standard).
According to the press release, the high performance module was specifically designed for a variety of high bandwidth, high performance memory system applications. It utilizes synchronous design which allows precise cycle control with the use of system clock. Data I/O transactions are possible on both edges and Burst Lengths (2, 4, 8) to allow the same device to be useful for a variety of applications.
The 512MB SDRAM features fast data transfer rate: PC-2100 and PC-2700, clock speeds of 133MHz and 166MHz and PLL. It provides programmable read latency 2, 2, 5 (clock), programmable sequential and interleave burst types, and bi-directional data strobe (DQS) for transmitting and receiving data.
Defined as part number WV3EG232M64EFSU-D4, the 512MB DDR SDRAM is priced at $86 each in volumes of 1,000 pieces with a lead-time of 6 to 8 weeks.
