Chipmaker Power Semiconductor Corp. (PSC) was reported to have already signed a letter-of-intent to the regional government of Jinan in Shandong, mainland China, to set up an 8-inch fab in the city.

However, PSC Spokesperson Eric Tang says the company has yet to decide and confirm the location of its new plant, not directly commenting on the reports.

Last month, officials from the city and the Department of Science and Technology in Shandong held a conference with more than 300 IC manufacturers and suppliers, including ProMOS Technologies Inc., Winbond Electronics and Texas Instruments Inc.

As an outcome of the conference, 11 investment proposals have been agreed upon, with the amount reaching $220 million. PSC, however, may not be one of them as its letter-of-intent just indicated the company's interest in investing in the region.

ProMOS was also reported eyeing the region but has made no statements as of yet of the final location chosen for its new facility.
