ARC International and Express Logic Inc. announced that Express Logic has ported their ThreadX real-time operating systems (RTOS) to the processors" target=_blank>arc 700 family of configurable processors.

ThreadX is a small-footprint, fast, royalty-free, ?ITRON 4.0-compatible real-time kernel, complemented by Express Logic's NetX TCP/IP stack and its FileX MS-DOS compatible FAT file system.

"Many of our ThreadX customers have found ARC's configurable cores ideal for applications demanding high performance in small, low power applications," shared William Lamie, president of Express Logic. "We are excited to further our partnership with ARC to bring ThreadX RTOS support to ARC's latest processor offerings." Presently, all Express Logic products support the ARC 600 and ARC 700 families of configurable processors.

ARC 700 processors

The ARC 700 family of configurable cores combines a powerful 32bit CPU and a full-featured DSP engine in a unified architecture. While capable of high clock rates, the ARC 700 has been carefully crafted not to make large tradeoffs in area for performance. These cores have the computing power to meet the needs of the most demanding SoC tasks, like graphics, media codecs and packet processing, said ARC International. The ARC 700 cores are also a suitable platform for embedded OSs, such as ThreadX.

ThreadX, NetX, FileX, USBX and PegX all are available for the ARC 700 core family from Express Logic. ThreadX/uITRON 4.0 is available from GRAPE systems under license from Express Logic. Prices start at $12,500 for a royalty-free license for ThreadX.
