PowerDsine differentiates its 3012 power-over-Ethernet (PoE) midspan, a 12-port device that's the latest in the company's 3000 Midspan family, from competing products by its compact design and low price-per-port.

"PowerDsine's 3012 Midspan is tailored to address the budgetary constraints of small- to medium-sized businesses that desire the flexibility to expand their enterprise networks," said Egal Rotem, CEO of PowerDsine.

Basic features of the 12-port device, which provides 15.4W per port at -48V, include fully plug-and-play installation, full compatibility with IEEE 802.3af or legacy Cisco powered devices, advanced auto-sensing algorithm to provide power only to PoE enabled devices and protection of non-standard Ethernet terminals.

Each port is monitored through the front panel by a bi-colored LED to indicate normal, overload, and short-circuit conditions. Additional indicators provide status of the main power supply and for self-test monitoring.

The 3012 is suited for mounting in a 19-inch rack. A mounting bracket kit is available. The PoE Midspan, measuring 11-by-9.7-by-1.9 inches and weighing 2.4 pounds, is priced at $512 per unit.
