Features a simple wire terminationA new line of 1.5mm pitch EZ-Conn connectors from Molex Inc. offers the smallest pitch available for industrial sensor applications. The new connector system also features a simple wire termination for cost savings and easy make-to-fit harness assemblies in the field.

The new EZ-Conn connector system provides about a 25 percent PCB space savings compared to similar 2mm pitch versions. Typical applications include air and water pressure sensors used in pick-and-place assembly machines, base press controls and other automation equipment.

Rated at 32V and 1.5A maximum, the EZ-Conn system includes cost-effective insulation displacement (IDT) cable plugs and modular PCB receptacle connectors in circuit sizes from three to 32. The IDT cable plugs are offered in two styles: a red plastic version for 25AWG to 26AWG wire, and a white plastic version for 27AWG to 28AWG wire. Plugs include a user-friendly thumb-latch for easy insertion and extraction, as well as for secure mating retention.

The EZ-Conn connectors are available in vertical through-hole and surface-mount versions and feature lead-free plating. The vertical through-hole PC-board version is available in modular units of three or four circuits in single-row, four-row and eight-row styles. The multi-row versions provide high-density mounting and allow for different input/output points. The surface-mount version is available in four circuits, allowing for right-angle mounting, and also includes side flanges for secure PCB retention.

The EZ-Conn mark is derived from the simple two-step method of wire termination. Field operators only need to insert the insulated wire, and then terminate using standard pliers. This easy termination method provides cost savings and enables make-to-fit harness assemblies in the field, said the company.

Available in tray packaging, pricing per system varies by circuit size of the cable side plug and the number of rows or pockets of the PC-board receptacle. For example, a three circuit, one-row mated system is priced at about $1.85 for high volumes. Delivery is eight to nine weeks, depending on circuit size and configuration.
