Power Analog Microelectronics (PAM), a developer of Class-D digital audio amplifiers and innovative power management semiconductors, introduced what it touts as the world's smallest 1.2W Class-D audio amplifiers.

The first of the series of Class-D audio amplifiers from PAM, the PAM8101 and PAM8201 amplifiers can deliver 1.2W with an 8-ohm load, at under 10 percent THD+Noise, with efficiencies of over 85 percent. According to the company, only two input coupling capacitors are needed in the external circuit.

The PAM8101 is a mono Class-D audio amplifier housed in a 5-pin SOT23, while the PAM8201 is a stereo Class-D audio amplifier packaged in an 8-pin SOP. Both devices are designed for use in cell phones, MP3, PMP, portable-DVD, USB-speakers and other portable electronic devices.

"Today, Power Analog Microelectronics marks its official entry into the Class-D digital audio amplifier market, with a significant lead over its competitors," said Johnston Chen, President and CEO of PAM. "The introduction of our PAM8101 and PAM8201 solidifies our claim as an innovator and trend setter as the world's smallest and the most cost- effective Class-D solution provider."
