Renesas confirms silicon success on automotive MCU

Renesas Technology Corp. has achieved first-pass silicon success on a car audio microcontroller developed using Magma Design Automation Inc.'s software.

The multimillion-gate, 0.13?m chip was designed by Renesas' microcontroller design group. With Magma's integrated RTL-to-GDSII design system, Renesas said it was able to increase performance and utilization and minimize power, noise and turnaround time on this IC.

The microcontroller uses a multi-power architecture and was developed using Magma's Blast RTL, Blast Fusion, Blast Noise and Blast Rail. Using Magma's integrated and cutting-edge technologies for design planning and implementation, and an advanced power-routing structure layout utility, Renesas was able to accurately predict the timing and routability of the design early in the design flow. This allowed production of a high-performance design with high utilization while minimizing iterations.

With Magma's built-in signal integrity analysis and correction, Renesas also reduced noise, a requirement in automotive microcontrollers.
