The automotive electronics industry has been the hottest topic in this year's recent ESC-Taiwan. The session hall about the "Development Trends and Key Components of Automotive Electronics" lead by Renesas Technology was crowded by audiences interested on the present booming market.

Ranking at no. 4 on the world's top automotive suppliers according to the company's automotive application's manager Shannei Zhishu, Renesas current automotive electronics products include MCUs, mixed signal IC, system-on-chip (soc) solutions, as well as embedded software platform development. Applications covering these products include auto audio system, meter panel and body control system, navigation system and car information system (CIS) with telematics.

At present, Renesas has formed cooperation agreements with automobile makers in Japan, Europe, United States and mainland China. Zhishu said, "Any company with enough technology power can have the opportunity to become the component supplier in automotive electronics devices such as car audio system and navigation system."

Zhishu indicated that auto makers normally have specific top-tier suppliers for those components used in safety system and engine drive system due to tougher specification requirements and higher safety demand, while the auto peripheral devices such as auto audio and CIS have relative larger market space.
