RF chip offers 'highest level of integration' in a low pin-count device

Micrel Inc. unveiled the new addition to its QwikRadio family that features the same high-performance of its MICRF009 but in a smaller SOIC-8 package.

The MICRF010 chip is aimed at a variety of applications in the automotive, industrial and consumer markets. According to Scott Brown, director of Mixed-Signal and RF products at Micrel, the global RF market continues to expand rapidly with new and innovative applications for RF technology. "With this trend, we have also seen an expanding need for increased range and smaller footprint to address more applications. The new MICRF010, the latest in Micrel's growing family of RF solutions, offers customers increased range, upgraded functionality and a smaller packaging option,"

The press release also said that the MICRF010 features the highest level of integration in a low pin-count RF device. It offers sensitivity typically 6dB higher than earlier 8-pin QwikRadio receiver ICs in Micrel's RF product family. This increase in sensitivity equates to a 50 percent increase in range. The solution also offers quicker recovery from shutdown, typically 3ms. The IC has a frequency range of 300MHz to 440MHz, a data rate up to 2kbps (Manchester encoding) and provides designers with low power consumption (2.9mA fully operational at 315MHz).

The MICRF010 is currently available in volume quantities. Pricing starts at $1.94 in 1,000-piece quantities.
