Magma Design Automation Inc. has said it plans to donate copies of its Blast series EDA software and provide technical support to Beijing University as part of the creation of an integrated circuit design laboratory.
When created the laboratory is set to be used to train professors and engineering students how to design chips, with the goal of increasing the number of IC designers in China.
The number of tool donations that Magma intends to make and the amount of revenue that Magma would thereby forego was not disclosed.
"China's demand for ICs is growing faster than any other region, so it is critical that we develop expertise on the most advanced IC design technology," said Hao Yilong, professor and dean of the Institute of Microelectronics at the School of Engineering and Computer Science at Beijing University, in a statement issued by Magma.
