Microwave cables resist temperatures in excess of 900C

Precision Measurements disclosed that they have developed metal jacketed microwave cables using high purity silicon dioxide, which resists temperatures in excess of 900C.

According to the press release, special processing developed by Precision Measurements has resulted in low dielectric constant microwave cable which can be operated in excess of 20GHz and provide a low insertion loss and VSWR. Glass developed by the company is used in manufacturing microwave connectors which are then used in manufacturing microwave cable assemblies, providing low loss and resistance to extreme temperatures. The cable assemblies are completely hermetic and provide the best choice for hostile environments, added Precision Measurements.

The company further said that all Teflon insulated cables change their electrical performance in extreme temperatures, while silicon dioxide microwave cable remains stable, indicating an insignificant change in insertion loss and a very small change in phase as a function of temperature.
