Intel Capital has made three investments in Chinese companies from its $200 million Intel Capital China Technology Fund, according to a Dow Jones report, which cited Intel Corp., as its source.
The three investments are the first from the fund which has invested undisclosed amounts in Chipsbrand Microelectronics (HK) Co., a fabless semiconductor design company; Onewave Technologies Inc., a Shanghai-based broadband entertainment technology solutions provider; and VeriSilicon Holdings Ltd, an asic design company.
"China is a force for technology innovation in the worldwide market place," the report quoted Arnold Sodhani, Intel Capital president, as saying. The report said Sodhani added that the fund is expected to stimulate technological innovation.
Intel Capital has invested more than $4 billion in more than 1,000 companies in 30 countries, the report said, adding that Intel Capital has been investing in China for more than seven years and has provided capital to around 50 companies in the mainland and Hong Kong.
