Device drives apps that use DDR Memory

Sipex Corp. launched a 2A memory termination regulator that is designed to drive applications that use DDR Memory, such as mother boards, graphic cards, supply splitters and memory modules.

Capable of sourcing or sinking up to 2A of continuous current, the new SP2996B is an excellent voltage source for active termination schemes of high-speed transmission lines like those seen in high-speed memory busses, said Sipex.

The device supports both DDR1 (1.25VTT) and DDR2 (0.9VTT) requirements while regulating an output voltage of within 20mV. The company explained that this allows for great flexibility with a variety of platform usages. By offering dual integrated power MOSFETs, the device also reduces the need for external components and offers smaller space solutions.

Additional features of the new memory termination regulator include a low output voltage offset of ?20mV, high-accuracy output at full load, thermal and current limit protection, adjustable VOUT by external resistors, and integrated power MOSFETs. The SP2996B also generates termination for SSTL-2, and has minimal external components. Sipex added that the SP2996B not only provides sufficient output capability but offers coverage for a wide range of applications.

Available in an 8-pin NSOIC package, the SP2996B is priced at 75 cents in 1,000-piece quantities.
