OrbiTrak GSM

Parvus Corp. disclosed that its new OrbiTrak GSM is now in stock. This modular PC/104 computer board is designed for intelligent vehicle and airborne computing systems requiring worldwide GSM/GPRS roaming combined with precise GPS positioning. According to the press release, the OrbiTrak GSM is an ideal solution for demanding mobile/vehicular (bus, rail, ship and air) applications. It combines wireless tri-band GSM/GPRS connectivity with a low-power 12-channel parallel-tracking GPS receiver in one highly integrated embedded module. Parvus added that this compact (3.550-by-3.775-inch), hardened telematics solution is built to resist high mechanical stress, thermal shock and extended temperature operation.

The product features a 4-channel 16C550 UART with two RS-232 serial ports free for other devices. Board configuration is done using FlexiSetT EEPROM board settings, which eliminates banks of interrupts and base address jumpers. A 16-bit wide programmable digital I/O is provided to interface with other low-power digital devices, along with two automotive level digital inputs to connect to any 12V or 24V digital signals.

In addition, the OrbiTrak GSM includes a Siemens 900/1,800/1,900MHz MC45 GSM/GPRS modem with onboard or external SIM card interface; a Fastrax iTrax02 12-channel low power iTrax02 GPS receiver NMEA and Binary GPS protocols, supporting 3.3V/5V antennas; an audio I/O port for headset; an external I?C-bus for device expansion; an onboard temperature sensor (I?C-bus); and GPS status LEDs.

Priced at $398 each in volume orders of 100 units or more, the GPS/GSM version of the OrbiTrak GSM is now in stock. The GSM only version (from $298 each) is expected to be available next month (September 2005).
