Amino, Philips team on IPTV reference design

Amino Communications has announced that its advanced software stack for IPTV set-top boxes will be combined with Philips Nexperia home entertainment engine PNX8550, for porting to the STB810 semiconductor set-top box reference and development platform.

The integration of Amino's (Cambridge, U.K.) software will create a ready to use set-top box blueprint for IPTV manufacturers, enabling them to bypass much of the software research and development for faster time-to-market.

Amino's software enables the creation of a comprehensive and highly flexible IP set-top box platform able to support a wide range of IPTV middleware and conditional access solutions. The open software platform also allows porting of third-party application software to add new features for IPTV service providers.

"We developed our set-top box products to prove the value of our software and to enable the take-off of the IPTV market," said Karthik Ranjan, vice president of marketing for Amino, in a statement. "By working with Philips' semiconductors division, we can jointly enable set-top box vendors and further drive down costs for IPTV operators".
