Murata Mfg Co. Ltd disclosed that they have developed the world's first and smallest SAW duplexer and RF SAW filter for IMT-2000 1.7GHz band.

Outside dimension of the SAW duplexer is 3-by-2.5-by-0.8mm (max). This tiny package contains the functions of a transmission filter and a reception filter that can share one antenna. According to the press release, IMT-2000 1.7GHz frequency band with such a small-size component was realized by assembling cutting-edge technologies for element electrode design and packaging. Low loss and high isolation were also achieved simultaneously by ingenuity in electrode design, added Murata.

Meanwhile, the overall size of the RF SAW filter is 1.35-by-1.05-by-0.6mm (max). This product enables transmission and reception signals to pass through specified frequency bands.

The newly-developed products are intended for domestic sales in Japan, with commercial production scheduled to start in January 2006.
