The global market for power semiconductor devices has been forecast to decline in 2005 from the figure of $11.2 billion in 2004, which was up by more than 20 percent on 2003, according to IMS Research.

IMS (Wellingborough, England) did not give a figure for the percentage by which the power semiconductor market would fall in 2005 but said that market would experience a compound annual growth rate of 8.3 percent over the next six years.

Much of the revenue growth in 2004 was attributed to discrete power transistors. However, the power module market also saw a 22 percent increase in global 2004 revenues. For power modules, industrial motor drives provided over 20 percent year-on-year revenue growth, whilst the non-industrial sector including white goods, grew at nearly 45 percent in 2004, according to IMS.
