Maxim Integrated Products unveiled its MAX4901-MAX4905 family of dual SPST and single SPDT analog switches that can handle negative signals with a single positive power supply, reducing external component count and improving audio signal quality.

The MAX4902, MAX4904 and MAX4905 devices feature integrated shunt switches to ground. According to Maxim, this feature reduces audio popping and clicking sounds by depleting the capacitive charge, which commonly builds up on the unconnected port of the switch, to ground. In addition, a 0.6 ohm on-resistance, 0.25 ohm on-resistance flatness, and a 0.04 percent total harmonic distortion yield excellent audio signal quality. The integrated comparator (MAX4905) gives the user mute and headphone-detection functionality, normally implemented with external components.

The MAX4901-MAX4905 switches are available in the extended temperature range (-40C to 85C), and both in a 9-bump UCSP (1.5-by-1.5mm) and an 8-pin TDFN package (3-by-3mm). Prices start at $1 (1,000-up, FOB USA).
