BYD acquires NiMH technology license from Ovonic Battery

BYD Co. Ltd recently acquired a license from Ovonic Battery Co. Inc. for the nonexclusive right to manufacture, use and sell Ovonic Battery's proprietary NiMH technology-based batteries for nonpropulsion applications.

Ovonic Battery is a subsidiary of Energy Conversion Devices Inc. (ECD Ovonics), which designs and builds machinery in addition to R&D on advanced information technologies and alternative energy including consumer hydride batteries, fuel cells, photovoltaics and hydride storage materials.

Located in Shenzhen, BYD specializes in the manufacture, R&D and sale of rechargeable batteries. The company's main product lines include Li-ion, NiCd and NiMH batteries, suitable for use in mobile phones, cordless phones, toys, emergency lighting and notebook PCs. Currently, BYD's daily output is 3 million units.
