A/D converter IP block tailored for battery-powered systems

A new 10-bit successive approximation register (SAR) A/D converter IP block has been designed for portable, battery-powered systems.

The LTR9200-T18 A/D converter IP block from LTRIM Technologies has eight multiplexed inputs and integrated sample-and-hold, enabling designers to quickly sample multiple analog sources.

The converter IP block offers a throughput rate of 1 mega-samples per second (MS/s). It also offers low-power consumption 3.3V for analog and 1.8V for digital. In consumes 2-mA of current in active mode and 100nA in shutdown mode.

"With one LSB max differential nonlinearity (DNL) and integral nonlinearity (INL), our new 10bit ADC block is both fast and dependably accurate," said Mike Shamshirian, VP of corporate sales, in a statement. "Moreover, it draws only a couple milliamps, making it ideal for low-power, muxed input markets."

Typical applications for the LTR9200-T18 include sensor interface/data acquisition, automotive sensors, multi-sensor wireless networks, building/home control, high-end mobile phone, biomedical devices/industrial automation and handheld systems.

The IP block is designed in Taipei, Taiwan-based Taiwan Semiconductor Mfg Co. Ltd's 18?m CMOS technology and can be retargeted to other foundry process technologies.

The cost of purchasing the A/D converter IP block varies since every customer needs some kind of modification, the company said.
